Information Technology is on the loose. Covering up the basic aspects of technology seems to be the theme of our ever-improving intelligence. Other methods of creating web pages are now cultivated that makes the young web page authors deal with superficial aspects of creating web pages and forget the actual source code. It is also stunning to know that applicatons used to create web pages today still use a source code but makes the web page authour to work interactig with a GUI (Grapic User Interface) which id dependent on the source code.
Students need to learn HTML to have a basic knowledge of what they are actually doing. If a student should create a web page without knowing the basics and she is asked to explain the source code to an audience, it would look like he never had a hand in creating that particular web page.
So the most important thing when dealing with web pages is knowing the basics.

I also think it is important for students to learn HTML. As for me, i am just learning it because i have to and its just nice to know how to create a web page because many people dont have the opportunity to learn how to use HTML.
